The Centrum is a part of the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center complex, a very unique facility, providing cultural enrichment and a myriad of social and educational services by the 120 non-profit organizations that use the facility annually. It is a splendid community partnership between the private and religious sector and that of the County. The Community Center is the heart of a civic complex that includes the Centrum, a 63-acre park, the new 30,000 sq. ft. Barbara Bush library and a very busy Harris County Court House Annex. Kirkegäärd of Boulder Colorado is the acoustic firm who designed the superb acoustics of the hall. This firm also designed the acoustical plan for Tanglewood, the refurbishing of Houston’s Jones Hall, and Stude Concert Hall. Additionally, they are redesigning the acoustics of the Sydney Opera House in Australia as well as countless other premier facilities. The hall is located in the heart of a thriving suburban area. The Centrum is the centering point for the 500,000+-population service area for cultural and civic events drawing from a 100-mile radius. Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts hosts exhibitions through the facility, Houston Museum of Science and History operates educational activities throughout the year, and the Houston Symphony Orchestra presents its annual New Year’s Eve concert in the hall and presents a chamber series and additional concerts throughout the year. Over 50 school concerts and 4 University Interscholastic League competitions were held at The Centrum last year. The choirs, bands, and orchestras of the three contiguous school districts that surround the hall, comprise the number “one” top fine arts programs in the state.
Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment (FACE) is a 501c3 presenting organization operating its programs in The Centrum. The primary goal of FACE is to enrich the lives of the community through education and the performing and visual arts. In addition, FACE presents numerous touring artists which have included Marvin Hamlisch, Tommy Tune, Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Nancy Wilson, Maynard Ferguson, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Navah Perlman, Burt Bacarach, and a host of other classical and popular performing artists. The major thrust of the presenting organization and that of The Centrum is its FOCUS ON EDUCATION project. Numerous free children’s concerts are held each season. FACE is committed to modeling excellence through the arts for our very diverse student population. |
